Décidément, ça ne va pas fort pour Second Life. Selon Business Week, le prix de certains biens immobiliers de ce monde virtuel est passé de 65 dollars en 2007 à 16 dollars aujourd’hui. L’air de rien, ça fait une baisse de 75%. C’est pire que l’éclatement de la bulle immobilière en Californie !
Chez l’éditeur Linden Lab, c’est l’état d’urgence : les effectifs vont fondre (-30%) et le patron Mark Kingdon quitte l’entreprise. C’est le fondateur de Second Life Philip Rosedale qui revient aux commandes. Le virtuel serait-il rattrapé par la crise ? En partie seulement. Car l’engouement des consommateurs pour les biens immatériels reste fort, constatent d’autres éditeurs comme Bigpoint, Electronic Arts ou Zynga.
